(I-AutoNewsWire.com, September 19, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- On Tuesday, Chrysler Motor Company announced that it will begin selling the newly redesigned 2013 SRT Viper for just under $100,000. This announcement makes the new Viper the most expensive car in Chrysler’s vehicle lineup.
The first Vipers off the assembly line for Chrysler will be the Coupe model. This is to mirror the original Viper which debuted in 1992, and was a two-passenger convertible. The company has no plans at this time to also reintroduce the viper roadster into the lineup, according to a spokesperson from Chrysler. The new Viper will have one of the largest engines available for a car produced in the United States at 8.4 liter V10. The vehicle will also boast a rated horsepower mark of 640.
The relaunched Viper will have a sticker price starting at $99,390, and the higher level Viper GT will have a sticker priced based at about $122, 390. This will include the $1,995 shipping charge for each vehicle. The relaunch of the vehicle, which has been gone from Chrysler’s lineup for two years, is just another sign that the automaker is trying hard to come back after their 2009 bankruptcy has led them to now exist under the corporate parent company Fiat SpA.
The nearest competition for the Viper is the Corvette ZR1, which is made by General Motors Co.’s Chevorlet brand. The Corvette ZR1 has a base sticker price of $113,575 that includes shipping costs and a federal “gas-guzzler tax. Chrysler will have a gas-guzzler tax for the Viper. The current stated price for the Viper does not include this tax. The tax is not included because the EPA fuel economy has not been released for the vehicle.
A spokesperson for Chrysler stated that vehicles will be delivered to customers sometime in December of 2012. The last Viper sold was under the Dodger brand name and was the 2010 model.
