(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 30, 2008 ) West Chester, OH - M.C. Mobility Systems is pleased to share the heartwarming conclusion to a story that involves the entire community. The Akers family, who have three special needs children, were in need of a vehicle that was equipped to accommodate their daughtersÂ’ two large, motorized wheelchairs. The cost of such a vehicle and the installation of the lift and securement systems was prohibitive for the family. Through the generosity of the local community the Akers family will now enjoy greater freedom. A new 2008 FORD E-250 Raised Top Explorer Conversion van was presented to the Akers family on July 17. M.C. Mobility is delighted to have been a part of this story, as the Akers family has become a source of inspiration for all.
The presentation of the new van will coincide with the complete rebuilding of the AkersÂ’ home, courtesy of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The home has undergone modifications to make it more accessible for the AkersÂ’ children. The homeÂ’s remodeling and now the presentation of the donated conversion van will hopefully provide a little joy and freedom to the Akers family.
“When I found out that this family needed an accessible vehicle because they could not ride together as a family with the girls' wheelchairs, I knew this was our way of helping out,” stated Cassy Bell, manager of M.C. Mobility Systems Evendale location. “The whole experience was truly inspirational, from how the community came together to help raise money to watching hundreds of grown men work together in the heat of summer to help a family they don’t even know. I was honored to play a part in making this deserving family’s life a little easier.”
All of the money for the wheelchair accessible van and the equipment were made possible by local donations from the following:
* Mike Castrucci Ford
* Explorer Vans
* Braun Ability
* The Community Foundation of West ChesterÂ’s Angel Fund
In addition to these donors, a generous citizen was willing to provide the remaining money needed to purchase the vehicle. She is on a 20 member committee that hosted a fundraising event for the family.
M.C. Mobility Systems donated the installation of the Braun lift, as well as the wheelchair securement systems. M.C.
